CIAA Announces 2020 Basketball All-Conference and Superlatives

Charlotte, N.C. – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announces the 2020  All-CIAA Team, All-Rookie team, and superlatives as selected by the Men's and Womens Basketball Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association. These outstanding individuals were formally recognized today during the annual CIAA Tip-Off Awards Luncheon.
 
Johnson C. Smith University men's and women's team has two for each on the All-Conference and All-Rookie team.

Senior guard Cayse Minor was named to the All-CIAA backcourt while Freshman Chaz Gwen was an All-Rookie backcourt honoree.

Minor, completed the regular season as the league's forth leading scoring leader with 18.5 points per game. He also ranks seventh in free throw percentage (81.2%), and third in field goals made (118).).

So far this season, he has scored in double figures in every game he has played except three. His lowest was six points against Winston-Salem State.

His best scoring output of the season came in a 33-point outing against Livingstone College on Feb. 15.  In CIAA play, he scored his 1,000 point against Lincoln on Nov. 23 and against Bowie State he scored 31 points. He is also a CIAA Player of the Year nominee.

Gwen, a first-year player for JCSU is from Winston-Salem, N.C. His best outing of the year came when he scored 14 points against Saint Augustine's. He also torched Saint Augustine's with four made threes.  He shot 39% long range and 42% from the field.  
 
Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball players Le'Zarea Bowens was named All-Conference and Aaliyah Bell has been selected to the CIAA All-Rookie Team the league announced on Monday.
 
Bowen, a native of Knightdale, N.C. completed the regular season as the eighth in league's scoring leader with 12.9 points per game. She also ranks sixth in free throw percentage (76.2%), sixth in rebounds (191). 

So far this season, she has scored in double figures in 17 games she has played. 
 
Bell, from South Augusta, S.C., finished her inaugural regular season with the Golden Bulls by averaging 3.3 points per game.  She played in 26 games for JCSU, starting in 15.  She returned a 30.3% (29-of-79) field goal percentage on the season and dished out 57 assists.

She scored in double-figures in one game, with her best games coming in 10-point outings against Winston-Salem State.  She also had a season-high seven assist Virginia Union.

For her efforts, she was named CIAA Rookie of the Week earlier in the season.
