CHARLOTTE - Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team suffered its second loss on the season by the hands Belmont Abbey College by a margin of 97-79 Tuesday evening. With the loss, JCSU stands 1-2 on the season and Belmont Abbey is 2-1 overall. JCSU never led the entire contest as the Crusaders largest deficit was 13 points.

Stephen Sherrill led the Golden Bulls in scoring with 17 points off of 7-for-11 shooting from the floor, including 2-for-5 from the three-point line and 1-for-2 from the foul line. Xavier Jones added 12 points and Michael Roberson chipped in 11 points off the bench for JCSU.

Jones recorded a team-best eight rebounds.

For the contest, JCSU came in averaging over 35 boards per outing; however, the Golden Bulls were out rebounded by the Crusaders 36-23. The Golden Bulls shot 46.1 percent (30-for-64) from the floor and 69.7 percent (9-for-13) from the charity stripe.Â
JCSU will return to action on Friday, Nov. 19 hosting the JCSU Tip-Off Classic against Bluefield State at 7:30 p.m. before taking on Paine College (Nov. 20) at 3 p.m.
