CHARLOTTE - Shaniya Jones scored a career-high 17 points, but the Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team fell to Glenville State University, 91-64 Wednesday afternoon in their home opener inside the historic Brayboy Gymnasium.

The Golden Bulls (2-1) trailed by seven (40-33) at halftime and to start the second half, GSU (3-0) outscored JCSU 34-14 in the third quarter to lead by as many as 27-points in that frame. The Golden Bulls managed to claw their way back, but the visiting Pioneers held on for the win in the final seconds.

Jones netted a career-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Tori Reid added 11 points and finished with seven rebounds.

For the contest, JCSU shot just 41 percent from the floor and hit 2-of-6 from behind the arc. At the charity stripe, the Golden Bulls shot 43 percent shooting (10-of-23).

GSU hit 46 percent from the field led by Zakiyah Winfield who finished with 21 points and six rebounds.

The Golden Bulls will return to action Saturday, Nov. 19 as they host Augusta University. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
