Charlotte, NC (January 25, 2022) - Church Mutual Insurance Company, S.I. ®, is proud to present the third annual "Church Mutual Protecting the Greater Good Award" general scholarship contributions. The $1,000 contributions are awarded in the name of one male and one female student-athlete participating in the CIAA tournament from each of the 12 CIAA member institutions.
The student-athletes chosen to have contributions made in their names have demonstrated a positive impact on their school, fellow students, or community. The scholarships, disbursed to the general scholarship fund in the names of the selected student-athletes, can be awarded at the discretion of the institution to any deserving CIAA member student.
The following student-athletes were selected to have scholarship contributions made in their names.
Bowie State University
Myles Anderson – Men's Basketball
Myles Anderson is a junior majoring in visual communications. Myles started his own company, Mboogie Visuals, doing graphic design, photography and videography. He has used this to impact the campus community providing graphics, photos and videos for several different events such as graduation, Greek life, athletics and lifestyle. He takes pride in his work and captures many memorable moments that will last a lifetime for his peers on campus.
Anii Harris – Women's Basketball
Anii Harris is a sophomore computer science major. She is a great teammate and classmate, having above a 3.0 GPA every semester, working hard on the basketball court and always encouraging her teammates to be better. Both on and off the court, she takes constructive criticism well and uses it to become a better person. Her devotion to her community exemplifies strong moral fiber and character.
Claflin University
Daniellye Riddick– Women's Basketball
Daniellye Riddick is a senior majoring in human performance & recreation. Her contributions to Claflin University and the community include volunteering at a local church and food bank, supplying Christmas gifts for children in need and volunteering at local back-to-school events for community youth. She also participates in various community efforts in her hometown of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, volunteering at food banks and distributing items to families in need at Christmas.
Donnell Frayer, Jr. – Men's Basketball
Donnell Frayer, Jr. is a graduate business administration student. He has been a great contributor to both Claflin University and the community as a whole. He mentors young children and he also participated in food distribution in the Orangeburg, South Carolina, community.
Elizabeth City State University
Gabriel "Gabe" Kirkendoll – Men's Basketball
Gabe Kirkendoll is a senior majoring in kinesiology. He is a veteran on the team who is always supporting his teammates. He represents what it means to be a team player and a model student-athlete. He currently maintains a 3.43 GPA.
NyAsia Blango – Women's Basketball
NyAsia Blango is a junior majoring in business administration. As a CIAA student-athlete, Blango prides herself on being a student first. She wants to be a prime example of what HBCUs can produce. She has been exposed to career forums, internships and job shadowing opportunities. NyAsia is a leader on the court and in the classroom. She is also always actively seeking opportunities to expand her skillsets.
Fayetteville State University
Cedric Currie – Men's Basketball
Cedric Currie is a freshman majoring in health & physical education. He had a positive impact on the Fayetteville community even before stepping on campus. He has been an active member within his church ministries as a drummer in the choir. Cedric has plans to pursue a master's degree to become a basketball coach at the high school and/or collegiate level. He wants to give back to the next generation.
London Thompson – Women's Basketball
London Thompson is a junior biology major. She has played a critical role on the Fayetteville State University women's basketball team. The junior guard/forward aspires to become a pediatrician or physical therapist. London's greatest inspiration is her family. An active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., London has participated in numerous community service initiatives.
Johnson C. Smith University
Ian Jones – Men's Basketball
Ian Jones is a senior majoring in visual performing arts who can make a huge impact in the community. Ian is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He makes contributions in the classrooms, on the playing court and more importantly, in the community through transferring the knowledge and discipline learned in school and during sports.
Aaliyah Bell – Women's Basketball
Aaliyah Bell is a junior majoring in sport management. She demonstrates a positive impact as a member of SAAC and the women's basketball team. Aaliyah volunteers at several local public schools, mentoring students in the classroom and on the basketball court. The uniform she wears represents her commitment, determination, respectability and accountability. It provides her a unique opportunity to influence people, institute change and make a positive difference in her community.
Lincoln University
Jordan Camper – Men's Basketball
Jordan Camper is a senior majoring in human services. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and Lincoln's SAAC. Jordan has participated in various community service events such as Read Across America, LU campus cleanup and the Chester (PA) Annual Easter Egg hunt. He also served as a panelist for a Lions in Leadership event, sponsored by the LU Office of Male Achievement.
Bryanna Brown – Women's Basketball
Bryanna Brown is a senior majoring in finance. She is very involved in community service, individually or with her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta. She has participated in the Bethel Gospel Assembly Thanksgiving Food/Clothing Drive, Lincoln University campus cleanups and the MLK Jr. Community Breakfast. Bryanna has participated in DST winter clothing drives and a voting initiative. She also was inducted into Lincoln's inaugural Chi Alpha Sigma national scholar-athlete society class.
Livingstone College
Varvara Papakonstantinou – Women's Basketball
Varvara Papakonstantininou is a junior majoring in business. She is an international student-athlete of high character, academic achievement, and school and social involvement. Varvara is current president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She has helped coordinate and carry out both virtual and in-person community engagement. Vavara was selected as the White House Initiative Scholar for the 2021-2022 academic year. She also participates in track and field and maintains a 4.0 GPA.
Cameron Robinson – Men's Basketball
Cameron Robinson is a junior business major. He has participated in events with the CIAA to donate goods to the Overton Elementary physical education department. Cameron has also been involved in the read-in sessions with Overton Elementary students and the Overton Fun Run. He participated in the Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive with the men's basketball team. Cameron is a part of the Business Organization and has maintained a 3.9 GPA.
St. Augustine's University
Jordyn Burton – Women's Basketball
Jordyn Burton is a senior majoring in sport management. She tries to help people any way she can. She lifts up her teammates when they make mistakes on the basketball court. Her teammates have never heard Jordyn say anything negative to anybody.
Christopher Hill – Men's Basketball
Christopher Hill is a junior business administration major. He is a respectful and calm individual with very good manners. He and his teammates assisted former NFL player Willie Parker with his Thanksgiving Turkey Drive and the Helping Hand Mission of Raleigh with its Thanksgiving Food Drive.
Shaw University
Amani Moxley – Women's Basketball
Amani Moxley is a senior majoring in sociology. She not only serves as a leader on the Lady Bears basketball team, but she also serves on the Shaw University SGA as well as the Beta Rho chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Justus Baldwin – Men's Basketball
Justus Baldwin is a junior recreation management major. He makes a positive impact serving as the administrative assistant for the Shaw University SGA student body president. Justus is a starter for the Shaw men's basketball team and has led a number of community service activities with the team.
Virginia State University
Jalynn Spaulding – Women's Basketball
Jalynn Spaulding is a senior health, physical education and recreation major, and a Dean's List scholar-athlete. Currently serving her second term as president of the VSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Jalynn is not only a leader in the classroom, on the court and in the community, but a leader for all VSU student-athletes. This year, she has helped the community in many ways and has more community outreach projects planned for the remainder of the school year.
Antwan Miles – Men's Basketball
Antwan Miles is a senior business management major. In his third season with VSU, Antwan is a leader on the basketball court and a scholar-athlete in the classroom. Antwan has also helped the community this season by contributing to the VSU Athletics Thanksgiving Community Outreach Food Drive. Miles and the men's basketball team will be participating the VSU Athletics Warm Hands, Warm Hearts Donation for the local community.
Virginia Union University
Raemaad Wright – Men's Basketball
Raemaad Wright is majoring in biology. He has been named the CIAA Player of the Week and CIAA Defensive Player of the Week in successive weeks. He scored 13 rebounds against West Virginia State University and scored a season-high 15 points against Millersville University.
Bianca Lockamy – Women's Basketball
Bianca Lockamy is a biology major and president of the Virginia Union Student Athlete Activity Commission. She has been the driving force in several community service events as a member of the Lady Panther basketball team.
Winston-Salem State University
Jaylin Parker – Men's Basketball
Jaylin Parker is a junior majoring in sport management. He continues to make a positive impact in the Winston-Salem community with his volunteerism. He enjoys being active with the WSSU Athletic Department and serving the community. Jaylin has assisted with delivering meals to those in need in the city. He believes his greatest asset is to serve others and be a leader and role model on campus.
Kyree Hall – Women's Basketball
Kyree Hall is a senior majoring in psychology. She is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., where she has held several offices. Kyree has been active on campus and in the community. Her goal is to give back to the community by ensuring that those in need have food and hygiene products. She made an impact reading to youth when she was able to volunteer at local schools in Winston-Salem.
