Men's Basketball Opens With UNC in an Exhibition

Stephen Joyner, Sr., and the Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team will tip off their 2022-23 campaign this evening as the Golden Bulls takes on the #1 team in the country, the Tar Heels of North Carolina.

The Tar Heels will host JCSU tonight at 7:30 p.m. in an exhibition game inside the Dean Dome in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The game has a family history as Hubert Davis, Sr. the father of head coach Hubert Davis, Jr., played his college ball at Johnson C. Smith 1965-69.  

Coach Joyner's Golden Bulls are coming off a 5-20 season. Joyner is beginning his 34th season as the Golden Bulls coach. He has compiled a 577-393 career record.

JCSU will take the floor for the first time against UNC with nine newcomers and seven returners as the Golden Bulls look to piece it together.  Augustine Ominu was selected as the lone returner to the Preseason All CIAA Team.
