JCSU wins the Commemorative Classic 38-17

CHARLOTTE - The Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University defeated the Blue Bears of Livingstone College 38-17 in the 89th meeting between the two teams inside Irwin Belk Complex on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened  
  • The Golden Bulls struck first when Daryl Taybron recovered a fumble and returned it 40 yards for the touchdown giving the Golden Bulls a 7-0 lead. 
  • The Blue Bears answered with an 18-yard pass to tie the score at seven all.
  • LC added three more points with a 43-yard field goal.
  • The Golden Bulls answered right back with a 49-yard field goal.
  • JCSU's Jamere Chary ran in for 13 yards to give the Golden Bulls 17-10 before both teams stepped away at halftime.
  • In the third quarter, LC tied the game at 17 all with a 54-yard pass. That was the last time Livingstone would score.
  • Cherry connected with Tyrek Williams late in the third quarter, JCSU leading 24-17
  • In the fourth quarter, Tim Newman, Jr. found the endzone from 5 yards out and Cherry connected with Reggie Bryant for his final touchdown in the Gold and Blue.
