CHARLOTTE - The Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball team took an extra five minutes to claim a 70-69 overtime victory against the Trojans of Virginia State University on Thursday evening in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division contest Thursday evening in Brayboy Gymnasium. 

Javon Anderson was the lone Golden Bull to score in double figures and scored a season high of 26 points. Anderson went 6-9 from behind the arc. 

JCSU was down as many as eight points in the second half, as the Trojans lead 38-30. 

The Trojans tied the game with less than five seconds to send the game into overtime. 

In the extra session the Golden Bulls missed key free throws in the final five seconds to allow the Trojans to missed a short jumper, as the Golden Bulls secured the win.

The win improves JCSU to 7-4 overall, 2-2 in the CIAA, while VSU drops to 7-7, 3-2.

Up next, the Golden Bulls will host the Blues of Bluefield State on Saturday, Jan. 6 inside Brayboy Gym. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
