CHARLOTTE - Five Golden Bulls scored in double figures as Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball defeated Bluefield State University 87-75. The Golden Bulls move to 8-4 overall and the3-2 in the CIAA, while the Big Blue drops to 6-10,and 3-4 CIAA.
Avery Huggins led JCSU with 25 points and grabbed six rebounds. Four other players recorded double-figure scoring for Johnson C. Smith, including
Ashton Sherrell who scored a career high of 12 points,
Ezekiel Cannedy dropped 11 on the night while
Javon Floyd and
Javon Anderson each had 10.
Sherrell also had a career night in rebounds grabbing 12 on the night.
JCSU had double digit lead of 25 points with 10:30 in the half. The Big Blue chipped away into the JCSU lead before the Golden Bulls slow the pace to secure the victory.
JCSU will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 11 as they take on the Vikings of Elizabeth City State. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
