JCSU snaps eight-game skid with dominant sweep over Sweet Briar

SWEET BRIAR, VA — Johnson C. Smith University volleyball ended an eight-game losing streak in convincing fashion on Friday afternoon, sweeping Sweet Briar College (25-11, 25-9, 25-16) at Williams Gymnasium.

The Golden Bulls (2-8) controlled the match from start to finish, showcasing strong offense and service pressure against the winless Vixens (0-14).
JCSU hit an impressive .375 as a team, while holding Sweet Briar to just a .022 hitting percentage.

In the opening set, JCSU hit a scorching .579 with 14 kills on 19 swings, cruising to a 25-11 win.

The momentum continued in the second frame with a .647 team hitting percentage and 12 kills to dominate 25-9.

Although the third set was closer, the Golden Bulls closed strong with a 25-16 finish to seal the sweep.

Jentle Brannon led all attackers with nine kills and added three service aces and a block.

Malayshia Bradley and Rihanna Myers each chipped in five kills.

Kailyn Hitch was dominant from the service line with six aces, while also contributing five digs.

Yasmine Cannon orchestrated the offense with 24 assists and added four digs and four aces.  Maci Murrell paced the back row with a team-high six digs.

The Golden Bulls also tallied 15 service aces and held a 22-14 advantage in digs.

With the win, JCSU picks up its second victory of the season and will look to build momentum as conference play continues.
