JCSU dominates Morehouse, 45-9 in the Essence HBCU Classic

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. - Johnson C. Smith University came out firing and never looked back in a dominant 45-9 victory over Morehouse College in the Essence HBCU Classic inside of Harvard Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

JCSU set the tone early with quarterback Kelvin Durham punching in a one-yard rushing touchdown just over a minute into the game. Though the extra point was missed, JCSU quickly added another score when Durham found Deandre Proctor for an 11-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 13-0.

The Golden Bulls continued their offensive surge as Kamarro Edmonds powered in a four-yard touchdown run. Morehouse responded with a 25-yard field goal cutting the deficit to 19-3. However, JCSU answered right back before halftime with Avante George scoring on a two-yard rush, giving JCSU a commanding 26-3 lead at the break.

In the third quarter JCSU wasted no time in the second half, with Durham connecting on a 72-yard bomb to Brian Lane for another touchdown.
Morehouse finally found the end zone on a 71-yard strike, but the PAT was missed, making it 32-9.

JCSU responded once again, as Durham threw his third touchdown of the day — a 33-yard pass to Reggie Daniel.

In the fourth quarter, JCSU capped off the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown run by Bobby Smith, pushing the final score to 45-9.

Up next, the Golden Bulls opens at home on September 6, to take on Valdosta State. Kickoff is set for 12 noon.
