Shaw Dominates Johnson C. Smith in Straight Sets in CIAA Opener

Box Score Raleigh, NC Johnson C. Smith University volleyball team opened CIAA conference play with a three set loss to Shaw University  (25-10, 25-8, 25-12) at C.C. Spalding Gymnasium on Thursday evening. The Bears improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the CIAA, while the Golden Bulls dropped to 1-3 (0-1 CIAA).

Johnson C. Smith struggled to find rhythm offensively, finishing with a -.063 team hitting percentage. Lapri Cromer led the Golden Bulls with four kills, while Yasmine Cannon dished out eight assists and added three digs. Marci Murrell led the team defensively with seven digs.

Shaw had a .356 hitting percentage on the night. Makayla Brown led all players with 11 kills, followed closely by Makaylah Simmons (9) and Asia Olivera (7).

Shaw's stifling defense and relentless serving proved too much, as they outscored Johnson C. Smith in total points 54-13 and led in every statistical category.
