CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball snapped its four-game losing streak on Wednesday night with a 50-42 win over Shaw University inside Brayboy Gymnasium.
The Golden Bulls (7-9, 4-5 CIAA) controlled the glass and delivered key plays down the stretch, outscoring the Bears 11-9 in the fourth quarter to secure the victory. JCSU finished with a 45-35 rebounding advantage and held Shaw to under 20 percent shooting from the field.
Amya Graham provided a spark off the bench, leading all scorers with 13 points.
Salote Franklin posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while La'Niya Simes added eight points and a game-high 12 boards as the Golden Bulls dominated inside with 34 points in the paint.
Shaw (6-10, 4-5 CIAA) struggled offensively, shooting 19.6 percent from the field. Mikyah Finley scored a team-high 13 points, and D'Ayzha Atkinson added seven points and seven rebounds. The Bears were held to just one field goal in the second quarter and never regained the lead.
