Golden Bulls Fall at Winston-Salem State, 59-41

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball came up short on the road Thursday evening, falling 59-41 to Winston-Salem State University in a CIAA Southern Division action at the C.E. Gaines Center.

The Golden Bulls (7-10, 4-6 CIAA) faced an early deficit as the Rams opened the game with a 20-10 first quarter and took a 34-14 lead into halftime. Johnson C. Smith showed improved offensive rhythm in the second half but was unable to overcome the early run.

Salote Franklin recorded a double-double to lead the Golden Bulls, finishing with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds while shooting 6 of 10 from the field. Amya Graham added nine points off the bench, and Rylee Ghent chipped in eight points and four rebounds. JCSU totaled 27 bench points and held a 20-10 edge in second chance points.

The Golden Bulls shot 33.9% from the floor and shot 1 of 8 from the free-throw line, while committing 24 turnovers. The Gold and Blue scored 38 points in the paint.

The Rams (17-2, 8-1 CIAA) were led by Maia Charles, who scored 16 points on 7 of 9 shooting. The Rams shot 47.1% from the field and never trailed.
