Golden Bulls Struggle Offensively in 63–44 Loss to Claflin

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team fell on the road Monday evening, dropping a 63–44 decision to Claflin University inside Tullis Arena.

The Golden Bulls (7–11, 4–7 CIAA) stayed within reach through the first half, trailing just 25–19 at the break, but Claflin (10–7, 6–4 CIAA) used a strong third quarter to create separation. The Panthers outscored JCSU 23–12 in the period.

La'Niya Simes led Johnson C. Smith with 14 points and 11 rebounds, recording a double‑double while shooting 6 of 13 from the floor. Salote Franklin added 10 points and 10 rebounds, also finishing with a double‑double. Tameia Shaw contributed seven points, and Nia Hunter chipped in six off the bench.

JCSU out rebounded Claflin 40–36. The Golden Bulls struggled offensively, shooting 26.8% from the field and 11.1% from beyond the arc. Free throw shooting with the team finishing 13 of 24 at the line.

Claflin had four players finished with at least six points. Ashari Lewis and Mia Lewis led the Panthers with 12 points each, helping Claflin shoot 41.8% from the field and 70.6% from the stripe.
JCSU will look to bounce back as conference play continues and the Golden Bulls host Livingstone College on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
