CHARLOTTE - Johnson C. Smith University men's basketball used a dominant second half performance to secure a 71-63 CIAA victory over the Rams of Winston-Salem State University on Wednesday night at Brayboy Gymnasium.
With the win, the Golden Bulls improve to 10-14 overall and 8-9 in conference play, while the Rams fall to 7-17 and 2-13 in the CIAA.
In a contest that featured six ties and eight lead changes, Johnson C. Smith outscored Winston-Salem 46-40 after halftime, shooting 55.6 percent from the field in the second half. The Golden Bulls also capitalized in transition, finishing with 21 fast break points and 21 points off turnovers.
Jamauri Bryant and
Jared Davis led the way with 18 points apiece. Davis added a team high 10 rebounds to record a double-double, while Bryant contributed seven rebounds and four assists.
Trey Pettigrew provided 17 points on the night.
After trailing 23-25 at the break, the Golden Bulls connected on 15 of 27 shots in the second half and knocked down four three pointers after going scoreless from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Golden Bulls finished with 42 points in the paint and received 16 points from the bench.
Justin Bumbray added 12 points off the bench, and
Orlando Hudson chipped in four points and four rebounds.
Winston-Salem was paced by Masaun Moore-Bryant's game high 33 points and eight rebounds, but Smith limited the Rams to 34.5 percent shooting overall and forced 14 turnovers.
