CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team couldn't overcome a cold shooting afternoon, falling 63–51 to Livingstone College in a CIAA matchup Saturday afternoon at William Trent Gymnasium.
The Golden Bulls (7–13, 4–9 CIAA) controlled the glass and generated consistent looks inside, but shooting struggles including 4-for-13 from the free throw line kept them from closing the gap. JCSU trailed 34–23 at halftime and matched the Blue Bears with 18 points in the third quarter before fading late.
Forward La'Niya Simes led the Golden Bulls with 12 points, 14 rebounds and four steals.
Salote Franklin added 10 points and nine rebounds, while
Sabrina Lewis scored eight points and hit two 3‑pointers.
JCSU shot 34.4 percent from the field and 23.1 percent from beyond the arc. The Golden Bulls held a 45–47 rebounding edge and scored 26 points in the paint but committed 15 turnovers that led to 16 Livingstone points.
Livingstone (6–16, 5–6 CIAA) was paced by Breasia Coit's 19 points and Jasiyah Crawford's 15.
