Johnson C. Smith places seventh at CIAA Men’s Golf Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  — Johnson C. Smith finished seventh at the 2026 CIAA Men's Golf Championship, closing the three-round event at 92-over-par as Fayetteville State captured the team title.

The Golden Bulls posted rounds of 42-over in Round 1, 29-over in Round 2 and 21-over in Round 3, showing improvement each day but unable to climb in the standings. Fayetteville State won the championship at 8-over, followed by Winston-Salem State at 12-over and Virginia State at 31-over.

D'Yanni Rhyne led Johnson C. Smith individually, finishing tied for 17th at 13-over-par with rounds of 77, 79 and 73 for a 229 total. Carter Houchins tied for 22nd at 17-over, highlighted by a final-round 72, one of the team's best single-round scores of the tournament.

Pedro Haddad finished 32nd at 27-over, while Joseph DeRosa tied for 35th at 35-over. William Johnson rounded out the lineup in 39th at 62-over.

Johnson C. Smith's best team round came in the final day at 21-over, as multiple players posted their lowest scores of the tournament.
