JCSU and Fayetteville State to Play Saturday

Charlotte, N.C. (Oct. 13, 2017) – The Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls returns home to the Irwin Belk Complex to take on CIAA southern Division rival Fayetteville State on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The Golden Bulls (0-6, 0-3 CIAA, 0-1 Southern Division) look to bounce back after a disappointing 27-22 loss at Winston-Salem State last weekend.  Against the Rams, JCSU junior quarterback Terrance Ervin (Richmond, Va.) finished with 58 yards on the ground while Jachin Watkins (Charlotte, N.C.) had 44.  Ervin also finished with 181 yards passing and a touchdown on a 16-of-37 outing with two interceptions.  The JCSU receiving corps got four receptions each from Yuille and Eugene Holmes (Columbia, S.C.) with Yuille going for 54 yards and score and Holmes going for 36 yards.

Defensively, JCSU got a career-high 11 tackles from Kyaire Bynum (Lancaster, Pa.), including one for loss. Senior safety  Carlo Thomas (East Orange, N.J.) had nine tackles on the afternoon with one going for loss and one fumble recovery.  As a unit, JCSU recorded seven tackles-for-loss.

The visiting Broncos enter the game coming off a 27-24 win over Shaw, improving their record to 2-4, 1-2 and 1-0 in Southern Division play. Tied at 24-24 with just four seconds to play, FSU kicker David Lamb drilled a 30-yard field goal to push the Broncos to the win.

Lamb's heroics capped a drive that started on the Broncos 19-yard line and was aided by two Shaw pass interference penalties.

FSU running back Stevie Green was the workhorse, rushing 24 times for 92 yards while teammate Donshel Jetton had 20 yards on 11 carries.  FSU quarterback Richard Lattimer also had a good outing, throwing for 222 yards on a 19-of-28 effort with one interception.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at JCSU's Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte.
