Women's Basketball opens 2021-22 season Friday

CHARLOTTE - The 2021-22 season for the Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team will officially tip-off on Friday, Nov. 12, when the Golden Bulls travel to Albany, GA, for the CIAA/SIAC Challenge. The Golden Bulls will take on the Panthers of Clark Atlanta at 1 p.m., followed by a matchup against the Rams of Albany State on Saturday at 3 p.m.

JCSU went 17-11 overall and 12-5 in CIAA play during the 2019-20 campaign under Head Coach Stephen Joyner, Jr. with the Golden Bulls.
 
In Joyner's 11th season, the Golden Bulls will feature five returning letterwinners, four transfers and six incoming freshmen. The two returning starters Aubriana Bonner started 12-of-28 games in during the 19-20 season, averaging 12.5 points per contest. She is the team's leader in rebounds with a 7.6 per contest. Le'Zarea Bowens was second on the team averaging 12.3 points per game and grabbed 7.0 rebounds during the 19-20 campaign.
 
The Golden Bulls were selected third in the Southern Division and sixth overall in the CIAA Preseason Poll.
 
After the CIAA/SIAC Challenge, the Golden Bulls will face Glenville State on Nov. 17 for its home opener in historic Brayboy Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
