Shaniya Jones scored a career-high 35 points, but the Johnson C. Smith University women's basketball team fell to Clark Atlanta University, 86-77, Friday afternoon in the CIAA-SIAC Challenge hosted by Elizabeth City State University.
The Golden Bulls (0-1) led at the half (38-25) and to start the second half, Clark (1-0) outscored JCSU 35-20 in the third quarter. The Golden Bulls managed to claw their way back, but the Panthers held on for the win.
Jones netted a career-high 35 points on 10-of-22 shooting from the field. Jones went 7 of 14 from behind the arc and went 8 for 10 from the line. Tyliah Burns added 13 points and finished with two rebounds.
For the contest, JCSU shot just 41 percent from the floor and hit 12-of-31 from behind the arc. At the charity stripe, the Golden Bulls shot 59 percent shooting (19-of-32).
CAU hit 49 percent from the field led by Corriana Evans who finished with 26 points and nine rebounds.
The Golden Bulls will return to action Saturday, Nov. 12 as face the Rams of Albany State University. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
