DURHAM, N.C. – It was an old fashion CIAA contest, as the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University took on former CIAA member now Division I foe the Eagles of North Carolina Central University inside McDougald-McLendon Arena on Monday evening. JCSU fell to the Eagles, 67-56.
The Golden Bulls took its first lead with a layup from India Howard leading 38-37, in the third quarter. However, the Eagles scored on back to back baskets to regain the lead.
Tyliah Burns led the Golden Bulls in scoring with 22 points off of 7-for-16 shooting from the floor, including 3-for-7 from the three-point line and 5-for-7 from the foul line. Jill Harris chipped in seven points.
India Howard led the team with seven rebounds. The Golden Bulls were out rebounded by the Eagles 40-26. The Golden Bulls shot 32 percent (13-for-40) from the floor and 77.8 percent (14-for-18) from the charity stripe.
JCSU will return to action on Nov. 11-12 as the Golden Bulls participate in the CIAA-SIAC Challenge hosted by Elizabeth City State. The Golden Bulls will face Clark Atlanta and Albany State.
